ABOUT RISE ABOVE FEST

The Rise Above Fest was founded in 2012 by Seether to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental illness. The festival’s name derives from Seether’s hit song “Rise Above This,” and was created in honor of Eugene Welgemoed, the brother of Seether frontman Shaun Morgan. Morgan explains, “I lost my brother in 2007 to suicide and it never gets easier. This whole festival came about as a dedication to him. I started this festival as a tribute to anyone who has lost someone. If this festival does something to help one person reconsider the tragic choice of suicide, then it will be the greatest success of my career.”

Past headliners of the Rise Above Fest include Slash, Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach & many more. Since conception, the Rise Above Fest has turned into a broader movement, expanding its presence at additional music festivals around the globe and through products like Morgan’s newly-announced Alain’s Ardent Ale. Presently, Rise Above will continue its mission of prevention and awareness in 2019 at the Exit 111 Festival in Manchester, TN with on-site activations and a dedicated Rise Above Stage. Alain’s Ardent Ale, also created in honor of Morgan’s brother, is made in collaboration with Nashville’s famous Fat Bottom Brewing and will debut at the Exit 111 Festival.

To further its impact, Rise Above and its various philanthropic endeavors partner with SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices Of Education), making meaningful charitable contributions towards suicide prevention and recovery.
